The University of San Francisco School of Law is seeking experienced and data-centric applicants for the position of Assistant Dean for J.D. Admissions. The Assistant Dean is responsible for ensuring the enrollment of a qualified diverse student body to the law school's J.D. program.

The Assistant Dean for J.D. Admissions develops comprehensive recruitment, admissions, and yield strategies in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management. Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean leads execution of those strategies and manages the Admissions Office staff and all aspects of J.D. Admissions in support of the law school's enrollment goals. The Assistant Dean is responsible for managing data collection and analysis, developing and monitoring the admission's budget, and ensuring compliance with admissions policies and best practices. The Assistant Dean represents the law school on select university committees and at national and international conferences.

Job Responsibilities:

Admissions Strategy and Planning
  • Support the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management in developing annual enrollment goals for the J.D. program.
  • Develop and implement recruiting and yield plans to achieve enrollment goals in partnership with admissions staff.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and the Marketing Strategist on admissions marketing and make recommendations for improvement and consistency with messaging and strategy across programs.
  • In conjunction with the Dean, the Assistant Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management, and the Senior Director of Administration and Finance, develop, monitor, and revise scholarship/discounting strategies to attract students, achieve enrollment and net revenue goals, while being sensitive to market trends.


Recruitment and Admissions
  • Recruit and counsel applicants, students, parents, alumni, university administrators and others on matters relating to the J.D. programs, policies, and admissions, including general financial aid matters and law school scholarships, as needed.
  • Develop and manage the application review process to ensure timely file review and decision-making. Review applications for admissions; draft admissions correspondence to include marketing communications, applicant correspondence, and decision notifications; award scholarships; and manage scholarship negotiation requests.
  • Oversee the Admissions Committee to ensure that committee members are familiar with processes, timelines, and general admissions goals for the cycle. Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Provide regular reports to the Assistant Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management on enrollment funnel. Implement strategic use of the customer relationship management (CRM) system.


Management and General Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, and lead J.D. admissions staff. Oversee and manage daily operations of the admissions team. Conduct department appraisals and establish a culture of professional development and coaching within the department.
  • Develop and manage the budget for the Admissions Office, including scholarships, travel, recruitment, operations, and professional development.
  • Oversee data collection for recruiting and admissions priorities and for compliance with various accrediting bodies and reporting agencies such as the American Bar Association.
  • Stay updated on legislation, policies, studies and other materials for compliance purposes and to implement best practices.
  • Participate in regional and national professional organizations such as LSAC, AALS, ABA, and pre-law organizations. Attend the annual LSAC conference and other national and international conferences as needed.
  • Serve on law school and university committees, such as the Graduate Admissions Committee, as requested by the Dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Understanding and commitment to USF's mission, vision, and values. Must possess a strong equity lens, cultural humility and a proven ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
  • A J.D. from an ABA accredited School of Law, at least three years of progressively responsible experience in law school admissions, and 5-7 years of overall professional work experience; or a B.A./B.S. and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in law school admissions.
  • Understanding of legal education on a regional and national level as demonstrated by significant experience at other law schools, through service to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), the American Bar Association (ABA), regional pre-law advising organizations, and/or similar organizations.
  • Knowledge of the local and national legal markets, and understanding of multi-channel marketing and recruitment strategies.
  • Understanding and experience in developing and executing strategic planning, and understanding of tuition discounting and enrollment projection modeling.
  • Excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality; strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff; excellent leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and other software programs) is required. Familiarity with Unite and SLATE Admissions Database software is preferred.
  • Extensive budget and project management experience. High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (up to 50% of the time), and the ability to consistently participate in evening and weekend recruiting and other events.
