Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.77 - $29.33/hr.

The full salary range for this position is $25.77 - $43.58/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

The Early Academic Outreach Program at UCSB provides students, their families, and communities with the resources and services necessary to increase A-G eligibility rates, university and financial aid applications, and enrollment into post-secondary education. EAOP is seeking professionals who are committed to assisting high-achieving and high-potential, first-generation, and low-income students become academically prepared and have options to successfully matriculate into any of the systems of higher education in California including the University of California and California State University systems. EAOP achieves this through the collaborative efforts of College Site Coordinators and Academic Services Coordinators in providing college knowledge and academic enrichment services to 9th-12th grade students and intensive academic advising to enrolled EAOP students. Brief Summary of Job Duties:

The UCSB Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) College Site Coordinator (CSC) is an active member of a dynamic, high production pre-college academic preparation program. Under the cooperative direction of the UCSB EAOP Assistant Director and the Isbell Middle School Principal, facilitates and delivers comprehensive pre-college academic preparation services and programs to students and parents in the SPUSD middle school and elementary schools in an effort to increase college readiness, academic preparation, UC-CSU eligibility potential, and generally improve overall higher education participation rates. Assists students in identifying career and post-secondary goals with a focus on UC-CSU eligibility. Provides ongoing guidance in the areas of course enrollment matters, college admission requirements, financial aid awareness, study skills, testing strategies, and student academic success. Is the "point of contact" between the middle schools and their feeder high school's associated EAOP CSC and various pre-college academic preparation programs. Supports the 8th to 9th grade transition process and placement into support programs. Assists in the coordination of school-site visitations by college outreach personnel, scheduling guest speakers, and collaborates with middle school staff in coordinating college advisement and study skill workshops students and their parents. Conducts ongoing college information and planning sessions/workshops for students, parents, and school staff. Provides community outreach to ensure that students receive adequate and appropriate information on academic opportunities. Assists in the development and delivery of professional development for teachers and other school stakeholders in relation to the four systems of California higher education and State and Federal financial aid. Attends workshops and professional development conferences.



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

  • 1-3 years Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education

  • Knowledge of high education institutions (UC, CSU, CC etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents and school representatives.

  • Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged and academically at-risk students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.



    Special Conditions of Employment:

    This is a career position with an end date of one year after the date of hire. Continued employment based on year to year funding continuation.

    Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

    40% College and Academic Enrichment Presentations

    Conducts college awareness workshops for 6th-8th grade students. Coordinates informational presentations designed to educate targeted populations about the benefits of higher education, financial aid resources, and early college preparation. Provides early information necessary to properly develop Individual Academic Plans (IAP) for EAOP eligible students and potential pre-college program participants entering high school. Fosters academic enrichment, and study skill workshops designed to promote student success and academic achievement in course work and examinations. Conducts individual and small group presentations that encourage eligible student's enrollment in summer academies, academic enrichment, and other pre-college program services. Facilitates counselor and teacher in-service workshops to discuss UC-CSU admissions requirements, college preparation best practices, and college prep academic advisement process. Assists in providing academic success workshops such as but not limited to study skills, learning styles, time management, goal setting, note-taking, among others.

    20% College Preparation Services for Parents

    Works in conjunction with District and pre-college program personnel to develop and implement family engagement strategies that draw upon best practices of existing parent education and family engagement models for increasing higher education awareness and participation rates. Coordinates and collaborates with school site staff in the delivery of parent-centered services, presentations, programs, conference workshops, campus tours, and institutes for parent participants. Attends and participates in 6th-8th grade parent informational meetings and conferences, college fairs, Back-To-School and Open House nights. Meets with prospective EAOP eligible parents to discuss Individual Academic Plans (IAP) and academic advisement options for college eligibility. Provides financial aid and scholarship awareness information that assists parents in understanding both public and private resources, eligibility status, application process, and associated deadlines. Facilitates and provides workshops designed to enhance parental skills for creating a learning environment in the home, understanding the value of homework, utilizing test preparation strategies, and supporting academic achievement for their students. Assists with recruitment and enrollment of parent participants to EAOP's Family Conferences and other associated District and/or EAOP academic enrichment activities and events. Provides Spanish-language college knowledge workshops and financial aid presentations for elementary and middle school parents as necessary.

    15% Academic Advisement for 6th-8th graders

    Evaluates student transcripts to determine prospective EAOP and UC-CSU eligibility potential. Develops and maintains Individual Academic Planner (IAP) for all EAOP eligible 8th grade students. Facilitates discussions with counselors and teachers at the middle and high school level in relation to timely placement of EAOP participants in college prep A-G course work. Refers and routes students to high school level District, State, and/or Federally funded pre-college academic preparation programs such AVID, Cal-SOAP, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, and MESA.

    10% Support & Coordinate Ongoing EAO Initiatives

    Supports high school college site coordinator with EAOP programming and efforts. Coordinates and implements small and large-scale events at school sites that may take place during evening and weekend hours. Participants include students and parents from EAOP partnership schools. In-service events are open to school site staff across EAOP service areas. Formulates, implements, and monitors annual programming site-budget for respective partnership school. Coordinates recruitment for and implementation of academic recognitions, UC Success Nights, parent and student conferences, summer readiness academies, and academic enrichment activities. Actively participates in EAOP Department meetings, annual strategic planning, regional meetings, supervisor one-on-one meetings, on-campus and other collaborative opportunities, as well as selected school-site committees as needed. Coordinates UC/CSU and related higher education campus visits for school site students. Participates in annual Counselors Conferences for both the University of California, California State University systems, California's Student Aid Commission FAFSA/Dream Act application workshops, and UCSB Reader training among other required trainings.

    5% Liaison w/ School District and Precollege Personnel

    Learns and understand School District policies and school procedures associated with existing academic advisement and college preparation practices. Serves in an active and collaborative role with pre-college programs, school site coordinating councils, the School Board and District Office, school counseling departments, and associated school site parent committees. Serves as liaison with middle and elementary school principals, counselors, teachers, and career technicians to promote and coordinate college awareness workshops and early formation of college going culture best practices. Interacts effectively and diplomatically with school district administrators, Key school personnel, UCSB faculty and staff, and pre-college partners during the coordination and delivery of EAOP services.

    10% Program Analysis and Evaluation

    Staff will maintain and collect academic data related to EAOP participants, students in general, and parents including the collection and maintenance of school-site and student-based performance data for use in the development and evaluation of enrichment program services, activities, and events. Staff is responsible for weekly reporting that includes the documentation of services provided across partnership school sites, participating student information, and other information necessary for stakeholder and annual reporting. Reporting also includes services provided to parents and school site personnel. Maintains EAOP school rosters and coordinates updates of demographic information in the program's web-based database. Secures program applications and parent consent forms for all EAOP enrolled students. Assists in the design, maintenance, and assessment of service satisfaction levels of school partners, including teachers, counselors, administrators, students, parents, and other associated stakeholders. Prepare and submit comprehensive mid-year and annual written reports documenting service outcomes, evaluation measures, and recommendations that focus on how to improve the quality of EAOP services. Utilizes web-based resources such as UC's Information Center, CSAC Cal Grant Dashboard, CSU Enrollment Dashboards, and Data Quest among other data systems to generate annual reports and assess participation rates.
